How To Create Amazing 3D Websites
If you have never worked with 3D before, this guide is for you. It shows where to get models, how big scenes should be, and how to keep everything fast and smooth for your visitors.
You do not need to be a programmer or 3D expert. Just follow the steps and learn as you build.
Step 1
Get your 3D models
Download safe assets from trusted sites or create your own in tools like Blender, Vectary, or SketchUp.
Step 2
Prepare and optimize
Clean the mesh, keep file size small, use simple textures, and export as GLB or GLTF.
Step 3
Build your 3D website
Import into ALYSSIUN BUILDER, place your assets, test performance on phones and laptops, then refine.

This is the button everyone uses to open the builder. Click it when you are ready to design and publish your 3D website.
1. Where to get 3D models
You can download ready-made 3D objects from these sites. Some are free, some are paid. Always check the license and make sure you have permission to use assets in commercial projects.
Prefer assets marked as CC0, royalty-free, or clearly allowed for commercial use. When you are not sure about a model, do not use it.
2. File types that work best
When you download or export models, some formats work better for 3D websites than others.
- Best formats: GLB, GLTF
- Also possible: OBJ, FBX, STL (convert these to GLB or GLTF before importing)
Why GLB — smaller files, faster loading, fewer problems in browsers.
3. Scene size: how many MB is ok
Your 3D website should load like a normal website. The bigger the scene, the longer users wait.
- Under 30 MB — ideal, fast on most phones
- 30–50 MB — acceptable, a bit slower
- 50–80 MB — heavy, may lag on weak devices
- Over 80 MB — too large for most web use
Treat 30 MB as your normal target. If you go above that, you should have a very good reason.
4. Polygons and triangles in simple words
Every 3D object is built from many tiny flat pieces called polygons or triangles.
More triangles give more detail, but also use more power and can create lag.
- Under 1 million triangles — ideal
- 1–3 million — ok for many scenes
- 3–5 million — heavy, use with care
- Over 5 million — too heavy for most users
Small experiences such as 3D business cards or simple product spaces can often work with 100k–600k triangles in total.
Ask yourself: will visitors really look closely at this object. If not, it does not need extreme detail.
5. Textures: how sharp is sharp enough
Textures are images wrapped on your models. Big textures and too many textures slow everything down.
- Most objects: 1024 × 1024 (1K) is enough
- Very important objects: 2048 × 2048 (2K)
- Avoid 4K textures unless absolutely needed
- Use JPG for most color textures, PNG only when you need transparency
One well made 2K texture used on many objects is often better than many separate textures on each object.
6. Cleaning and preparing your models
Before you bring models into ALYSSIUN BUILDER, take a moment to clean them.
- Remove parts the user will never see
- Delete hidden interior faces
- Merge small pieces when you can
- Reduce the polygon count on very dense meshes
- Use simple, clean materials
Use clear names so your library stays organized:
- tree_small.glb
- office_chair_black.glb
- car_sport_red.glb
/props
/architecture
/characters
/vehicles
7. Build for all devices
Your 3D website should feel good not only on gaming PCs, but also on normal devices.
- Mobile phones — aim for small scenes and simple geometry
- Tablets and laptops — moderate detail, smart textures
- Desktops — can handle more detail, but still benefit from clean optimization
If your world runs smoothly on a basic laptop, you are on the right path.
8. Smart design tricks
Use your detail where it matters most and keep the rest simple.
- Close to the camera → more detail and nicer textures
- Far away → low detail, soft shapes
- Background → very simple geometry or even flat shapes
Lighting
- Often one main light is enough
- Baked lighting is better for performance than many real time lights
- Use HDRI environments for soft, realistic light when possible
Audio
- Use compressed formats
- Limit how many sounds play at the same time
- Only spatialize important sounds
9. Simple workflow to follow
You can use this as your checklist every time you build a 3D website.
- 1. Download or create a 3D model
- 2. Open it in Blender, Vectary, SketchUp or similar
- 3. Clean, simplify, and set up textures
- 4. Export as GLB or GLTF
- 5. Import into ALYSSIUN BUILDER
- 6. Place and scale objects in your scene
- 7. Test on a phone and a normal laptop
- 8. If it feels slow, reduce size, polygons or textures
10. Mindset of a great builder
You are not just dropping objects into space. You are creating a feeling for real people.
- Visitors should feel that the world loads quickly
- They should feel curious and safe to move around
- They should want to stay and explore more
The best builders do not ask how much they can add. They ask what they can remove and still keep the experience powerful and emotional.
You do not need to know everything on day one. You will learn by doing. Each model, each scene, and each test makes you stronger as a builder.
